You will find that the lamp in the projector is very fragile when it is hot.
The most important thing about extending the life of a lamp is to make sure that it is not bumped when hot. The other point is to allow for adequate cooling. Very important to not unplug the power to a projector once you have finished watching a movie. Once you turn off the projector, often the fan keeps going to cool the lamp down.
The other thing is to never touch the surface of the lamp as the oil from your skin presents hot spots on the glass and can cause failure.
The other obvious thing is to not use the projector for watching things like the news or kids cartoons.
Keep the projector for the movies...

Good luck.

Always handle the bulb with gloves on, preferably something like cotton gloves. Oils from you skin, even right after you wash them, can create hot spots on the bulb, which can cause it to burn out prematurely. Also, always let it cool completely before handling it or the projector. When a bulb is hot, it's more susceptible to damage due to jarring. And, obviously, turn off the projector when it's not in use.
