    Smile reset mysql server --- centos, fedora linux

    ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

    solution;

    /etc/init.d/mysqld stop
    mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables &
    mysql -u root
    mysql> use mysql;
    mysql> update user set password=PASSWORD("newrootpassword") where User='root';
    mysql> flush privileges;
    mysql> quit
    /etc/init.d/mysqld stop
    /etc/init.d/mysqld start

    or if you require to delete mysql;
    rm -rf /var/lib/mysql
    rpm -e mysql-server -or- yum remove mysql-server

    install mysql;
    yum install mysql-server

    related question;
    DBI connect failed : Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' to database 'mysql'
